I uploaded ttx in cgi-bin
and pointed my browser to
and it worked (i got the setup screen)

when i put my mouse over "use default data dir"

or

"use Alternate data Directory"

the url look like this

/~1694267.182797//cgi-bin/mainttx/setup.cgi

if i click either of them i get page not found Huh

1.  You'll have to create it manually.  It does not have to be any place in particular.

2.  Edit your post so everyone doesn't have access to your setup screen.

You'll have to create it manually - what do you mean by that.

Install it on a local server and then copy all the files  - and then modify some of the config files?

No.

For whatever reason, your server is not granting permission for Setup to create the data directory.  Create a directory on your account and then manually enter that path in Setup instead of using "default".

i did try that -
i created a data dir (called) maintttxdata under htdocs

and clicked on use alternate data dir -  the actually button "use alternate data dir" is wrong it comes up 404 no page found
the url looks the link (with the double //)
